Lake Alexandrina is a shallow lagoon in South Australia, about 40 miles southeast of Adelaide, at the mouth of the Murray River, which flows through it into Encounter Bay. Some 23 miles long and 13 broad, it has an area of 220 square miles. The Coorong, a southeasterly extension, is a narrow lagoon paralleling the coastal dunes for nearly 100 miles.
